Description
Steel makeweights (or add-on weights) are used to fine-tune the balance of a box sash window sash. If a sash isn’t sitting quite right, simply slide one down the cord to rest on top of your existing sash weights until the counterbalance is spot on. Steel is less dense than lead, so you’ll need a slightly larger weight to achieve the same effect — but it’s a much more budget-friendly option, and without lead’s toxicity. It’s simpler to handle, store and dispose of, with none of the special precautions that storing or cutting lead requires.
