The Government has now
published guidance documents explaining the changes to Part L of the Building
Regulations for England and Wales for the Conservation
of Fuel and Power. The revisions to the Building Regulations
will become law on 1st
October 2010.
This
means that:-
All
replacement window and door installations from 1st
October 2010 have to comply with the revised regulations
by law.
We promised to keep you up to date,
so here's a brief guide to what you will be required to required to
comply with.....
- For
all new Dwellings, you have to be able to prove that
the window you supply has achieved a whole window U Value of 2.0
W/m2K or Better
- For
all Replacement windows, you have to be able to prove
that the window you supply has achieved a whole window U Value
of 1.6 W/m2K or better or an Energy Rating
of band C or better
When considering the above information,
you will need to bear in mind that:-
1) Where replacement windows are
unable to meet the above requirement because of a need
to maintain the external appearance of the façade
or the character of the building, they must instead have
achieved a centre pane U-value of 1.2 W/m2K
2) If your window has not been
tested and rated, you can supply a window that has been
built to the default U-values (W/m2K) for
windows, doors and roof windows laid out on page 141 of
theGovernment's Standard Assessment Procedure
for Energy Rating of Dwellings. You can find
the document by

3) If you are just replacing glazing, the
installation does not have to comply with Part
L.
